The Marathon Tomb

I recently had a chance to visit the Marathon tomb.

It is an important monument in the military history of ancient Greece. It marks the tomb of the 192 Athenian warriors who died defending their city in the famous Battle of Marathon in 490 BCE.

This burial mound stands approximately 9 meters tall and 50 meters in width. It consists of layers of sand and soil covering the ashes of the dead soldiers. Burying the warriors on the very battlefield, rather than bringing them home to Athens, was uncommon in that era and set a significant precedent for future war burials.

The grave is notable for more than its role as a burial site. It brings to mind one of the most significant battles in Western history, where a smaller army of Athenian fighters managed to repel the first Persian invasion of Greece.

On another note, I am currently working on two amazing projects—one on the sustainability market and the other on a technological innovation. In collaboration with my clients, we will launch the crowdfunding campaigns in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more.
